We will be in BERN for one day, on a Sunday, March 31 before joining a River Cruise on Monday. I understand most shops are closed on Sundays - which is fine as we aren't big shoppers while on vacation. Any suggestions as to what we can do? We won't be arriving till about 2pm Sunday March 31. We will have most of the day Monday also as our tour doesn't begin till 5pm Monday April 1. Thank You.
There are of course excellent bars and restaurants looking out over the Aare River that winds around the old city center.
You should start on a website like this:
There are interesting historical tours, another beautiful cathedral. etc. Interestingly when the cathedral was being renovated and the exterior riverside plaza was reinforced they found all of the saint's statues which had been torn down and broken up during the reformation being used as fill under the plaza.
Note for fun from The Bern Historical Museum webpage: "The museum is open on all holidays, with the exception of the Zibelemärit (Onion Market) and Christmas Day (25 December)." I din't know that Onion Market day was such a big deal! But it is, in November...
The website gives opening and closing times for museums, etc. We particularly liked the Paul Klee Museum of modern art.
Looks like the bears might be out of hibernation the end of March.

We had the best time talking to one of the rangers. He was cracking us up.
