What to do around Basel

I’m taking a Rhine River cruise and ending in Basel Switzerland. Any suggestions what to do for 2 or 3 days while I’m there?

We did a Rhine River Cruise and started in Basel. Basel is a colorful and fun town to visit. I contacted the TI in advance and received several walking tours and guide to sights. We walked both sides of the river. We crossed the river by the art museum and then used the bridge that ends up near the rathuis.

We really enjoyed the Jean Tinguely museum in Basel. He made kinetic sculptures and there are buttons to press to make them move. Fascinating!

We'll be in Basel after a cruise next year so I can't help with on-the-ground experience but from what I've learned so far is that the city is filled with art museums if you're into that. The favourite day trip appears to be to Lucerne and then heading up to the top of Mt. Pilatus for the views.

Fun fact about Basel, it's recommended that you keep your passport with you while in town because the city borders France and Germany and you may be asked to show it as a couple of the trams cross the borders.

Basil is one of the most colorful towns I've been to. We did several of the walking tours to the city gates. Do not miss the Rathuis and be sure to go inside. There is a market right it front of the Rathuis which seemed to take place most days until midafternoon or so. The cathedral is lovely and be sure to go look at the river from behind the cathedral.

Depending on where your ship docks, we were able to take a trolley to the ship.
