What to do after Chamonix?

We are hoping to visit Chamonix in a few weeks (assuming the weather is good that day). We will be driving in from Geneva and after our visit we need to head towards Bern. We are in no rush and can overnight anywhere along the way. I'm looking for suggestions. This is part of a 25 day, slow paced trip to France and Switzerland where we are visiting friends and family so I think I'm just planned out at the moment and could use some help.

An overnight stay in Chamonix is one great option. Enjoy the sunset and dinner after a day riding gondolas and/or hiking in the Alps. Go early and ride the cable car to Italy, an amazing ride past Mont Blanc. I read about this is in the RS Europe Through the Backdoor book and really enjoyed it on our first trip to Europe. Walking around town with the glacier seemingly right above you is beautiful.

Chamonix is less a than three hour to Bern and you could drive over the pass to Martigny, there is a shop on the border where we bought the Swiss vignette and enjoyed a short hike with amazing views. The drive down the Swiss side is also amazing, with many switchbacks. Then you would go north at Martigny and go past Chillion Castle which would be a great stop.

A fun puzzle to solve, enjoy the planning and the trip.
