What place can I add with Mt.Rigi round-trip ?

Hi,

We will be visiting Lucerne after a week and have one full day, while we will be staying at Lauterbrunnen. We will be taking Majestic or Classic round trip (still deciding, which one) to visit Mt. Rigi. We are more into landscapes and sceneries so asking a suggestion, if we should some other place also, along with Mt.Rigi roundtrip, which will give us more pleasant scenery. We both are photo-lovers, so seeking that opportunity. We will leave from Lauterbrunnen early, which can give us option.

Please advise

Depending on the trip, Mt. Rigi should take most of the day. At least it did for us.

It looks like a full day. The boat stops Weggis which is a nice little town to have lunch/dinner. Great views across the lake. The little church in Vitznau just uphill from the train stop is nice too. You won't have any trouble finding "landscapes and scenery" to look at, photograph, or simply enjoy.

I don't think you need to add anything to your Mt. Rigi trip. I had to look up the difference between Majestic and Classic (I had a pass, so I just got on without having to book a separate ticket), and it turns out I took the Classic itinerary.

I'm just a casual picture-taker, but the constantly changing views from the boat over to Vitznau had me wildly snapping away, and that was before I got on the train up and then up on the mountain itself. Then you take the other way down (to Weggis) and you have more different views to see and photograph. It's quite a varied trip. I can't comment on the Majestic route (via Arth-Goldau).

By the way, If you do take the boat both ways ("Classic route") be sure to do it this way, into Vitznau and out of Weggis, rather than the other way around. The boat dock at Weggis is a 10 minute steep downhill walk from the station; it's at least 20 minutes of steep uphill walking if you land at Weggis. At Vitznau, the train is only a short and slightly uphill walk from the boat dock.

When you decide on your departure and return times to Luzern , keep in mind that five of the lake boats that ply the route to Vitznau are restored early twentieth century steamers . If you like examples of engineering as art , a trip on one is a must . Check the schedules at the quay in Luzern . ( the center section of the main deck is open to the engine room below )
