Hello -
It was suggested on this forum that we could take "local trains" from Lucerne to Interlaken. We would like to take the scenic route and not the route through Bern.
I was advised that using a leg on a RailEurope pass would be expensive.
What is the more cost-effective method?
Would we book through SBB here: https://www.sbb.ch/en/buying/pages/fahrplan/fahrplan.xhtml
Thank you!
We booked thru SBB by entering "via" Meiringen. You can also "via" Brienz and either will get you on the local scenic train. We had half-fare cards and were able to book Super Saver 1st class tickets without seat reservations for @25 CHF as I recall from last September.
There are hourly direct trains between Luzern and Interlaken Ost, all using the “scenic route”. You do not have to specify “via Brienz” or anyplace else.
The regular fare is 34 CHF, but the 8:55 departure usually has SuperSaver tickets on offer for 20 CHF if you buy on SBB.ch in advance.
Thank you both!
From your other post I gather that you are doing Basel - Interlaken via Luzern. You do not need separate tickets for each segment. You can buy a ticket Basel - Interlaken via Luzern on www.sbb.ch.
BTW, the Lucerne to Interlaaken train route is spectacular— you’ll go through the Brunig Pass and past glacial- fed lakes that are turquoise due to the mineral content.
Have a great time!
