Does the tour department now know which hotel our My Way Alpine group is using on Sept 14 - 15? I'd like to know ahead of time where to run for Visa ATM machines to get some cash. Thank you.
I would simply call the tour department for the quickest answer. You may be overthinking this a little. You could simply ask the hotel desk for the closest ATM machine when you arrive.
If you call them they will tell you if they can.
I imagine your tour escort will point out the ATMs. There are 3 right beside the Coop grocery store on the main road right across from the train station. On the escorted tour the bus stopped there for a quick ATM use, but we were staying in Stechelberg.
Your complete tour hotel list is normally in your web portal about a month in advance of your tour departure, so soon. Probably the first opportunity to get Swiss Francs will be at a rest stop on the Swiss side of the border, with ATMs available.
You're on a guided tour for heaven's sake. That's what your tour guide is for. ATMs are everywhere so there's no need even thinking about it until you get there.
I am also on the Alpine My Way tour, leaving one week earlier than you on Aug 31. I got my hotel list on Tuesday of this week. You should be getting yours soon, I would think.
We are also visiting the Berner Oberland area at the end of September (not on a tour) and have been wondering if our American ATM cards (no chips in them yet) are still working in Europe. In May our guests from the Netherlands were unable to successfully use their Dutch ATM card in American ATM machines - their card had a chip in it.
We will have two new credit cards that do have a chip in them, but don't want to use them to get cash. We will have a few Swiss francs that we got from Travelex to get us started.
You shouldn't have any difficulties using American Debit Cards at the ATMS in Switzerland. Just remember to notify your bank that you will be traveling before you go so that they don't lock down your account because of concerns of fraud.
Murren has one ATM machine not far from the COOP grocery store and easy to find. I'm sure the other towns are just as convenient.
Thank you Carol! Yes, I agree, I always notify my bank and credit card companies re: my travel dates.....don't want to get locked out of being able to use them.
The bus makes two pit stops on the way to Lauterbrunnen. The second one was our first stop in Switzerland and there were ATMs available to withdraw francs. There's an ATM on the main street in town, less than a 10 minute walk from any of the hotels, if you need more.
