What are the restroom options in Gimmelwald?

Hi. Does anyone recall the availability of restrooms/toilets in Gimmelwald? Are there any at the cable car station? Anywhere else in town?

Thanks!!
Carrie

We've been to Gimmewald twice and used the restrooms at the Mountain Hostel both times. We also ate there though. You can enter through the side door to access the restrooms without speaking to the waitstaff so it may be possible to just walk in and use them or ask if they are available to those who are not eating or staying there.

I think I remember simple toilets behind and under the cable car station... never used so not sure but fairly sure.

I have used the restrooms as the Gimmelwald cable car station. It's been several years, but I imagine they are still there.

Thanks so much for the responses!! I figured there had to be restrooms somewhere, but I have not had any luck finding info. on-line.

Carrie, Gimmelwald is really just a village of a few farmhouses, the hostel, and maybe a few pop-up cheese stands. Its not a town, and doesn't have any real tourist infrastructure. Rick likes it just for that reason and the beautiful scenery. A short stroll up the hill to Mürren where you'll find more.

Carrie,

Are you going to be staying in Gimmelwald or just passing through? In addition to the Mountain Hostel, there's also the Pension Gimmelwald and Esther's Guesthouse. As I recall, the Pension has a restaurant so if you're stopping there for coffee, you could use the WC there. I don't remember if there are facilities in the Gimmelwald cable car station, but if you're heading up the hill to Mürren, there are WC's in the cable car station there.

Stan and Ken, thanks for taking the time to reply. We’ll be staying in Lauterbrunnen. I was thinking on the day that we visit Schilthorn we would walk down to Gimmelwald from Murren. But the views form Murren look spectacular so maybe it’s not necessary for us to go down to Gimmelwald. My sister doesn’t like to be too far from a restroom, so it might make more sense for us to wonder around Murren. We also have another day planned to see Wengen and Mannlichen. With all the wonderful options, I guess we really can't go wrong.

Hi Carrie, we’ve hiked through Gimmelwald twice. Both times we were ready for a break and beverage so we stopped at the Restaurant Mountain. Wonderful views from the terrace. They serve food too and have restrooms. Beautiful area!

Carrie,
Starting in Lauterbrunnen, to the Schilthorn, back down to Mürren, and then meandering down to Gimmelwald on the paved path, with mountain views and the sound of cow bells ringing, makes for a very pleasant day. You will probably have lunch either in Mürren...or wait until Gimmelwald, so there will be a WC available.
It is not a far or strenuous walk between Mürren and Gimmelwald; slightly downhill all the way. If you walk to Gimmelwald, you would take the cable car down to the valley floor. Once at the bottom, your sister and husband can take the Post bus back to the hotel, while you could choose to walk back along the valley floor.
As far as restroom opportunities in Europe, I too like to know my options. If we are somewhere where there is a WC, for ex., museum, or restaurant, I usually take advantage of the facilities available before exiting the premises.

I echo what Donna says re the Restaurant Terrace at the Mountain Hostel. While the first time I was there, it was kinda incidental, now it is a destination. Yes, the views are fantastic. I have been there when all tables are full and when it was just my small group. Either way, the views delight.

Thanks everyone for the additional responses!! I am making a note of all the restaurant recommendations. I think it makes sense to have a snack or lunch in Gimmelwald so we can use the restroom there. And Carol, great suggestion about putting my sister and her husband on the bus while I walk back to our hotel. I may be doing that a lot on this trip. 😊
