Wengen or Interlaken for 3 night stay?

Hello everyone,

We are a couple 65 and 84 yrs old,so no hiking etc. but we love a beautiful Swiss town with good access as we are taking trains.
We are coming from 3 nights in Luzern and planning on 3 nights in Interlaken or Wengen. We love charming Swiss towns as we stayed in Zermatt many years for skiing. We will then be in Lugano for 4 nights. This is for next week(early Sept)
We love the mountain views as well as lakes so where should we stay for convenience for both given all the choices one has in
the Bernese Oberland?

Thank you for all suggestions and your valuable time.

No question. Wengen (or Lauterbrunnen or Murren) is IN the mountains and are charming Swiss villages. Interlaken less so. Plus, if you are in Interlaken you have additional time to get into BO every day.

Interlaken is primarily a transit hub which does not meet your criteria. I would never stay there when incredible beauty is within an easy trip to Wengen, Murren and/or Grindelwald.
For a visit to a lake go back down out of the mountains to Lake Thun or Lake Brienz. Lucerne/ Luzern is on a lake. It is very easy to go from Grindelwald anywhere as cars allowed in town but there is excellent train service too.

Absolutely Wengen. We just got back from a trip there last month. We were there with my in-laws who are 74 and 80 and they had a great time. There was plenty to see and do that could enjoy and was easily reached by train or gondola. The beauty there was incredible…we stayed 4 nights and could have stayed longer!

if your husband requires flatter, a good compromise is Lauterbrunnen. In the mountains, but in a valley so most routes are flat or pretty much so. Great views (have to look up) and easy transport to both sides of the valley via cable car or train. Since my first few years staying in Interlaken I discovered Mürren, but in your case Lauterbrunnen is much flatter.
