Wengen/murren/grindelwald or Interlaken?

Hi all
Trying to work out where best to stay - will be travelling to all the above places. Keen to minimise daily travel where possible but perhaps that’s not too much of a concern? Thanks for any support

Not Interlaken. You will want to be in the midst of those gorgeous mountains! Have a great time!

Thanks Jean! Are there anything to split the other 3? Any which has easiest transport links or anything? I’ll get hunting on accomodation sites!

We like to stay in Lauterbrunnen as it is the transportation hub for the valley enabling easy access to Wengen and Mürren as well as Grindelwald. It is a 20 minute train ride from Interlaken and a world apart so as Jean recommended, do not stay in Interlaken.

Mürren and Wengen are lovely and higher up with terrific views and are car free and we have enjoyed staying in each of them as well.

Wengen or Grindelwald give the best mix of convenience and views/ambiance.

I certainly agree with Jean……NOT Interlaken……way too touristy and crowded……get up in the mountains in Wengen….or we always love Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen. Lauterbrunnen is such a great hub to get where you ant to go and quickly…..it is in a beautiful valley so though you are not up in the mountains you have them all around you. Grindelwald was crowded and touristy as well…..we would get on a train in Lauterbrunnen and train up to Kleine Schdeigg and begin our hikes there. Lucky YOU!

Thank you everyone- your comments are extremely helpful and has helped me rule Interlaken out and concentrate on Lauterbrunnen.

A quick search for B&Bs and it’s not turning up many options for Lauterbrunnen. I’m searching apartments as opposed to hotels as I read it can be v expensive to eat out each night. There are options for wengen - it doesn’t look far on a map but am I wrong with that?

<20 minute train ride so easy. If you find lodging you like there, it is not a mistake to stay in Wengen.

We stayed in Lauterbrunnen with the Rick Steves tour, and we stayed in Wengen when we came back a few years later. This area was my husband’s favorite in Europe!

The reason we picked Wengen our second time was because you’re up one level of the mountainside instead of in the valley at Lauterbrunnen looking up. But either is fine. We liked Wengen’s breathtaking views from our hotel bedroom and quick access up to Kleine Scheidegg.

There should be more hotel options in Wengen for you, also. Yes, it’s expensive in Switzerland. There was a small grocery store in Wengen where we picked up lunch items, plus a bread store.

We stayed in an AirBnB in Lauterbrunnen and had a full kitchen so we fixed most of our meals. There is a Coop store there right in town that had everything we needed.
