Want advice regarding wengen stay .
My family of four ( 2 adults and 2 children 14,17) , will be in switzerland in late may next year.
We want to stay in wengen for 3 days. Will it be very cold in wengen that time,?
Are many restaurant closed ? Will it make more sense to stay in interlaken?
We have booked hotel edelweiss wengen for our stay.
Would welcome your suggestions as we have no idea about switzerland weather in late may.
I very much enjoy Wengen. There is a great opportunity for easy hiking as well as exquisite views in the Alps. It is a car free town with nice hotels and very good restaurants. Weather is always unpredictable in the Alps, so I don't think anyone can guarantee weather. It will probably be in the 50's Fahrenheit.
Interlaken is a larger town and more touristy. To me, Wengen is a much better location to enjoy the region. Enjoy your trip.
Thank you. Wengen looks lovely and so looking forward to staying there.
manjiri, in the mountains anywhere, the weather can change in a hurry, and the temperature can drop significantly at night, even if it is warm and sunny during the day. I would think you would want to have jackets, hats and gloves with you. I was in the area once in May, and there was still snow on the ground in many places. But there are people living there in Wengen all year around, so not everything closes down. Its just a short train ride down to Interlaken if you run out of restaurants.
I would definitely choose Wengen over Interlaken. We have stayed in Wengen in late May several times. Weather was very nice during these trips but the innkeeper (Alpenrose) told us they had a late snow a week or so before on our last visit. Last trip we went to Jungfrau and there was a bit of snow. Your kids might enjoy the zip line up there (not real scary). No problem finding restaurants. Plan on layers for clothing--big puffy jackets were not needed. There is a COOP store in Wengen--handy for snacks, etc.
Thank you for all the suggestions , looking forward to wengen and switzerland so much .
