Will be hiking in the Wengen area for three days and deathly afraid of heights. So no gondolas or drop-offs or scary bridges. In great shape, though, and want to get up in the mountains, not just stay in the valleys. So, which hikes up in the mountains are accessible by train from Wengen? Thanks!
Mark, I could write the exact same description! My husband loved open heights, but I unfortunately couldn’t do it. When we stayed in Wengen, we hiked west of the town up into the trees. Also, I was fine taking the train up to Kleine Scheidegg from Wengen. That area is higher, but it’s a large flat area, so you won’t have that unstable, falling feeling. We walked a few easy paths there, and the views out & up from there are tremendous!
There’s also Trummelbach Falls - an interior set of waterfalls that’s a nice walk across the valley from Lauterbrunnen. I went quite a ways through it and enjoyed it.
Wengen is great for just wandering. I always just follow the sound of the bells—cow, goat, and sheep. If you stop in at the tourist office near the Mannlichen cable car station, they can give you a map of all the walks from Wengen and help you choose the best options for you.
I love walking down in Lauterbrunnen Valley once you get past the crowds near staubbach falls.
This hike is on my list of what to do next:
Kleine Scheidegg to Lauberhorn Mountain Peak.
I’ve seen the trail from the starting point, and I love that it's a proper trail rather than an access road. It also seems like you can skip the peak if it feels too exposed when you get up there (see map in the link). Maybe someone here has already hiked it.

Sorry for the crazy long link. You can look at wengen.swiss to see all the local hiking trails.
Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg is a great walk and way nicer than the much hyped Mannlichen to KS panorama trail. You can take the train back to Wengen.
The Staubbachbänkkli walk is an easy and beautiful warmup walk that starts right near the Bären and Edelweiss hotels in Wengen. Ask at any hotel for a brochure that includes walks from Wengen. We enjoyed it in the early-mid morning as the clouds were lifting.
This link details the walk that Barbara mentioned. I see they changed the website.
After the picture, you can click on details, turn-by-turn directions, etc.
And if you scroll down further, you can click on the pictures for the other walks in Wengen. That will bring up the details for those.
Just a note that I found the time estimates to be off. They all took me longer. But I stop all the time to take pictures.
