Wengen and Lauterbrunnen In One Day from Interlaken?

Wondering if both of these mountain villages can be explored on the same day trip from Interlaken? Don’t plan any hikes, just strolling around checking things out. We will be there the middle of September.

Also wondering if a day trip from Interlaken to Grindelwald would would be an all day trip or just a few hours to see the village?

Thank you!

I'd encourage you not to stay in Interlaken. It's a commercial transit center, not a charming Swiss village. You'll experience more Swiss charm if you stay in Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, or Murren.
September is a great time to go. Enjoy!

Thank you for your suggestion. I agree with you but the tour company we are committed to (To-Europe) (we are using a deposit that is left over from cancellation of a Covid trip) recommended we use cities they normally have hotel agreements with as a base and take day trips from those cities. Otherwise the cost would be much greater plus we might not be able to get reservations in the villages.
Thank you.

To answer your questions yes you can do all in day trips but you’ll wish you’d have had more time there. Lauterbrunnen is about 25 mins train ride from Interlaken and you get the 12-minute train to wengen from the same station as you arrive.

Grindelwald is a slightly longer train but still doable in a day as well.

You could do all three in one day by going to Lauterbrunnen. Exploring. Train to Wengen. Explore then up to Maanlichen and take the gondola down to Grindelwald explore and train back to Interlaken.

I agree with the above.

Back before I started staying up in the mountains I had several (3 or 4) years when I stayed in Interlaken or Unterseen which is adjacent. I always had a good time, and the ride up the hill to either Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen is fast and easy.

So, yes, but you may be a bit rushed. Get an early start...

As your trip gets closer, check to see when the Alpine Descent (cow parade) will occur in Lauterbrunnen. We enjoyed it when we visited there in September; it's a unique experience.
