Weekend in Switzerland

I am a student in Europe, and only have a long weekend to travel. I want to go to Switzerland, but am worried about the time crunch. I can only fly into Geneva or Basel. I had wanted to go to Gimmelwald, but am worried it would take too much time to get there. I'm flying in on friday morning and leaving sunday afternoon. Any suggestions on places to visit closer to the airports? I am not interested in the cities, but want to go on moderate day hikes and walk through rural villages. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I looked on the swiss train site and it shows 2 hours from Basel to Interlaken. I know it takes a little longer to go from there up to Gimmelwald. There are some experts on here that can tell you the exact time etc. If your heart is set on going there, I don't know why that wouldn't be doable.

Gimmelwald is 3 hours 23 minutes from Basel airport, and about 4 hours from Geneva airport. Minimum one connection every hour from either. Some place like Leysin or Les Disblerets or Villars is about 2 1/2 hours from Geneva airport. Those are in the French speaking district.
