We will be travelinging in France and Switzerland in April/May. By the time we get to Switzerland it will be the first week of May. We thought we would stay in Lauterbrunnen since we have heard that Murren will be empty with many hotels and restaurants closed between ski and summer seasons. Will the gondolas and other travel options to the higher points be open at this time of year? Do you have a better suggestion of where to stay given our timing? Would it be better if we stayed in France at Chamonix at this time of year? Thank you for your help!!

What specific higher points are you planning to go to? Some are closed some are not at that time of year.
For example the gondola from Murren to the top of Shilthorn is open in early May.
I'm also planning in the process of planning for May
