Weather at the Aiguille du Midi

We will be in Geneva with plans to head out to see Mont Blanc on either 4/26 or 4/27. The weather forecast in Geneva is calling for rain those days. Will rain be expected at Mont Blanc as well or is there a different weather pattern? Also, if just cloudy is it worth making the day trip? It is something we really wanted to do, but not sure how weather dependent it is...Thanks!

Weather forecasts 10 days out are pretty unreliable. Wait until you are there and get a more accurate forecast.

Alyssa,

The weather will probably be similar in both areas of south eastern France, but keep in mind that forecasts can change. If it's raining in Geneva and Chamonix that day, it may be snowing atop Mont Blanc. In the same situation, I'd give it a try.

Mark Twain or Will Rogers (I think) once said something to the effect of "...everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it...". Since nobody can do anything about it, and since "It is something we really wanted to do...", I'd say hope for the best and go for it! If you don't go and the weather turns out great you'll miss something you really want to see. If you get to Chamonix and it rains or snows you're still in a lovely town.

Even if visibility only improves for a short part of the day, it will be memorable. I'm thinking of the time I spent five summer nights at Denali National Park in Alaska and only saw the mountain for a couple of half-days.

Laura, we were in Denali National Park for three nights and days, and never saw the peak of the Denali!! It was still an amazing trip. Fortunately for us, both of our days in Engelberg were gorgeous, with no rain in sight. This was a chance we took in adding Engelberg to our plans, knowing full well it could've been rainy. We actually did get to go to the top of Mt. Titlis one day, and had a waterfall hike the next .

I totally agree with you about enjoying where ever you are no matter the weather. As I think back to how incredibly hot it was on our trip last summer in France and Switzerland, my memories of discomfort ( near heatstroke) really faded in comparison to the wonderful memories we made while there. We just adjusted our plans accordingly and kept on exploring .
