I’m going to Switzerland in mid April, low season??, and I was wondering if I should go ahead and buy my Swiss travel pass (six days) now, and purchase a Mount Pilatus ticket which seems to be nonrefundable, or to wait until I get there.
What's your full itinerary? And no, you shouldn't buy mountain top tickets ahead of time until you know the weather is good enough to justify the trip. No point in an expensive trip up into the clouds. You get that on an airplane :)
Day 1 - Arrive in Basel - Day walking and travel to Lucerne. (Home Base for the duration)
Day 2 - Walking around Lucerne, museums, etc..
Day 3 - Mt. Pilatus
Day 4 - Fortress Furigan, Mt. Rigi (maybe too much for one day?)
Day 5 - Gimmelwald / Murren / Schilthorn
Day 6 - Travel to Zurich - seeing sites around town
Day 7 - Fly out
Also heard Stoos is good, so I need to research that.
Any benefit to buying the Swiss Travel Pass ahead of time?
And today I'm hearing of a TELL-Pass. Never heard that one.

No, the price does not change.
I always buy mine a few days before I leave. I like to print out a couple of copies. So, i allow a few days in case i run into printer problems.
It has been 6 years, but the front desk at my hotel (Hotel des Alpes) sold the tickets needed for Mt Pilatus. My guess is that most hotels probably provide this service. The tickets came with a brochure and good directions.
