Please tell us which wall plug adapter works in Switzerland. I remember being there a few years ago with a Europe adapter which didn't work for Swiss outlets. Also, I'll be taking my old iPhone for an occasional call to a hotel or restaurant--not many calls as we have our hotels booked in advance. What type of phone card should we get, and where do we purchase it?
For under 2½ amp application, a euro plug adapter should work. I say should because some of the older 2-pin adapters had rounded ends that would not fit into the pointed-end recessed Swiss socket. I think most modern europlug adapters will work.
This one should work. It has ends shaped to fit the Swiss receptacles. Note: it also converts voltage, to 5 VDC for USB charging.
It's very easy to find an adapter here. They sell them at the Poste shop which are usually nearby the larger train stations. You can also find them at Manor, Interdiscount, Fust, department stores.
Prepaid phone plans are quite inexpensive here. I have used Yallo.ch for years. It's prepaid, no contract and I pay for only what I use. As far as I know, it's not possible to purchase any sim card or prepaid plan unless you provide your passport and your address. You assume responsibility for the phone number.
Another US reader from this site recommended Salt.ch. They are similar to Yallo.ch. I have not used them, but you can go online and see which plan works best for you. They each have a tab for English on their site. Yallo.ch Salt.ch
Excellent! Thanks, Laci.
Yes, a two pronged adapter needs to have the sharp diamond shape, not the larger rounded edges like on this one Rick sells: https://store.ricksteves.com/shop/p/european-power-adapter
If you have a three pronged appliance, Switzerland uses a unique three pronged plug (not the same as the one in France, Germany, etc): https://www.amazon.com/UHPPOTE-Adaptor-Adapter-Switzerland-Liechtenstein/dp/B013UXQCB4/
