walking with luggage in Murren

How far is it from the cableway station (I am not certain that is what you call it) in Murren to the Hotel Junfrau? I am wondering how difficult or easy it is to walk that distance with luggage. We know we should pack as little as possible, but understanding this will help us with packing and planning.

Also, how far is car parking from the station in Lauterbrunnen?
Thank You

It’s .2 miles from cable car to hotel. Murren is easy to walk in; the main street is pretty flat and it’s car free.

Don’t know answer to your 2nd Q, sorry.

There is a big parking garage at the train station. You will need to cross the street to get to the cable car to go up to Murren.

If you are going to use the cable car from Stechelberg to get to Muerren, then park at the Stechelberg lot, not Lauterbrunnen. The lot is right by the cable car loading station.

If you come up the gondola from Lauterbrunnen it takes you to Grutschalp. From there you take a shuttle train to one end of Murren. At the other end is the gondola from Stechelberg. Which Sam mentioned above. Town is not very big so the hotel is easy to reach from either route. I find the train to offer beautiful views across the valley. So try to ride it at least once during your visit. There’s also an easy trail that sort of follows the same route.

There are three primary carparks down in the valley.

At the end of the valley is the open air car park for the Schilthorn. It is where the Mürren paragliding folks land. Look up before stepping out.

At the church in Lauterbrunnen is another (smallest of the three ) open car park... Fees similar to the first, no barrier, strictly enforced but more difficult to pay.

Next to Lauterbrunnen station is very large, multi storey, very modern, well lit parking structure. Just slightly more expensive and in peak season can be reserved - but I don't. Watch the policies, basically no change, no refunds. Guess which is my fav.? Oh and the underground passage leads right to the cable car.

If you’re staying at the Jungfrau the walk will be shorter if you do cable car to Grutschalp and train to Murren — not the Schilthornbahn cable car from Stechelberg which will be probably double the walking time.

From the train station up in Murren it’s about a 5 minute walk. One section is a bit uphill and with luggage you’ll be slightly annoyed for about 1 minute of it, but it’s nothing crazy. We do it every year with 3 months of luggage, as our chalet is right next to Hotel Jungfrau. I also think the hotel has a little golf cart that I’ve seen them running around with so there is a chance you can ask them if you can pay to have your luggage toted? If not, it’s really not a big deal.

At the cable car in Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp veer right before the escalators to drop your luggage off. They then transport it for you to Murren where you pick it up on the train trailer.

When you exit the train station walk straight and when the road forks in two stay right to go uphill under the sky bridge of the Alpin Palace Hotel. You can’t miss it. After you pass under that you’ll start to see Hotel Jungfrau straight ahead.
