Walking time to Hotel Oberland and Hotel Staubbach from Lauterbrunnen train station

I've seen different #s for how long it takes to walk to each of these hotels from the train station. I know there is a bus that one could take to the Airtime Cafe (if one is going to the Staubbach), but the reason I'm concerned is that because we'll have one medium size check in bag in addition to carry on bags.

How long does it take to walk to these hotels? Also, how important is it for your room to have a valley view? I am assuming that one will get the valley view regardless of where you're staying, unless by being up on a higher floor makes a difference. Incidentally, I already have reservations at the Staubbach, but see that rooms are available at the Crystal Annex of Hotel Oberland for the dates that we're interested in. So I'm trying to decide where to stay, still have a month left. We are also staying in Murren for a couple of days at the Alpina Hotel.

Well, I just happened to have Rick's Switzerland book within reach, and looked up to see what he had to say: "....Staubach is a 10 minute walk....; .....Oberland is a 5 minute walk....". Not surprising as the whole town is not that big - as you'll see as you look down on it from Mürren. Cant speak to staying at either.

You can find the walking distances to most anywhere by using Google maps. According to that, it's 4 min to Oberland and 10 min to Staubbach. Select satellite view to see the route + terrain. Of course that depends on how fast you walk.

Thanks for the replies! If anyone has stayed at either hotel, I would appreciate your opinions about the views from those hotels, and whether that should be a deciding factor.

I had dinner at the Hotel Staubbach and I think I know where Hotel Oberland is. They are right in the middle of the little town and in my opinion, if you want views you would stay a bit out of town in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Rooms on the south side of Hotel Staubbach may have valley views.

I had a great view from my room at the Hotel Oberland, including a view of waterfalls. The room and bathroom were small but very clean and efficient. The views vary slightly from room to room, and the windows are not huge, but I didn't spend much waking time in my room. I went outside to enjoy Switzerland.

We've stayed at Hotel Oberland, specifically the Annex (rooms) across the street, which have private balconies staring straight at Staubbach Falls. It was a great place to return to in the evening, when the falls become illuminated, sitting with a beverage and enjoying the show. In my mind, I'm there now! :) The location couldn't be better situated for getting around the valley, either by foot or bus. Rooms were nondescript but large and comfortable. That said, when we next return to that region, we'll opt to stay in Mürren rather than Lauterbrunnen. Sounds like you've already booked parts of your stay in Mürren, well done!

Andy,

Five minutes is probably a good estimate to Hotel Oberland, although if hauling luggage you could add a minute or two. I've never stayed at Staubbach, but at Oberland I think the view will depend on which room you're assigned. As I recall, there are a couple of nice patios including one adjacent to the rooms one floor above street level, so you shouldn't have much trouble seeing the view. I've never stayed in the Crystal Annex so not sure what the views are like from there. One other comment about the Oberland is that the restaurant is excellent, although not inexpensive so be sure to budget accordingly.

To reach the Oberland, look for the paved path that extends up to the road from the station. Walk straight ahead and you'll see the hotel on the right.

Staubbach is an easy 10 min walk and rooms with balcony facing the
big waterfall are great...breakfast is good and staff very helpful. You'll
pass by the hostel and you'll see their washer/dryers which you can use.

The Staubbach Hotel does not have a restaurant. They do have great views of the waterfall from south facing rooms.
