I will be in Switzerland during early March and would like to walk from Murren down to Gimmelwald. (NOT on the Via Ferrata) Will the trail likely be open and if so, will it still be covered in snow? I do not have hiking boots but will be wearing boots that have soles similar to those found on athletic shoes. Also, how long will the walk take me? Thanks for your help :)
Not having done it myself, I can only say that it is shown on the Muerren Ski Map as a purple "Hiking Path". I imagine it would have a packed snow surface, perhaps with a bit of gravel on it?

From what I saw last winter, it was plowed. It isn't a trail, it's a road that service vehicles use. Needs to stay open all year.
There's no gravel. It is asphalt all the way, three or 4 people can easily walk side by side.
do they provide the toboggans?
Maybe even more fun than a sommerrodelbahn? Do they have bells on the front to warn the walkers? Would hiking boots be OK for the walk, or snow boots? Is there anywhere to toboggan down the hill from Almendhubel or Birg?
Thanks for the info - toboggan it is!
