Walk from Laussane to Montreux?

I see from the RS guidebook and Google maps that it is possible to walk along Lake Geneva from Laussane to Montreux to see Chateau de Chillon. Since I will be in Laussane for a few days prior to doing the Tour du Mont Blanc this seemed like it might allow me to maintain whatever trekking fitness I may have and also enjoy the lakeside walk. I would take transit back to Laussane for my return.

Has anyone actually done this and would they recommend it? Or perhaps just do a portion of it?

Is the route along the lake pleasant? Is it auto free for the most part?

Thank you for any feedback.

Google maps says 26 km and 5 hours to walk this. Of course in real time it will take longer as you will want to stop periodically. Use GM Street view to see what the route actually looks like. We drove this route, and it is certainly pretty.

I’m not sure if it is contiguous, so I’d focus on finding that out. It may be more rewarding to take a train up one of the mountains to a trail instead. And when going to the castle, take a boat across the lake (or the quick train) and walk along the waterfront in Montreux. The castle is fantastic!

I have walked portions of this boardwalk (near Lausanne, Montreux towards Chillion, and the other end of the lake near Morges).

Is the route along the lake pleasant? Is it auto free for the most part?

Yes, very pleasant, no cars, lots of garden areas/flowers along the shoreline, benches, delicious ice cream stand in Lausanne although, perhaps that defeats the purpose of all that walking 😄 great views.

Montreux (Clarens station, north of the center) to Chillon castle is a great walk on the boardwalk.
Lausanne to Lutry is walkable too.
But in between, I would take the train or a boat.

I opted for the (free?} city bus from Vevey to Chillon and then walked back to Montreaux and again took the bus. Many easy travel combinations are available.

I very, very much appreciate everyone's responses. I will not be going until the end of August so have plenty of time to change my plans, but I think after absorbing all this information I will likely end up walking a portion and using other transport for the remainder. A boat ride sounds nice :-)

Thanks, again, everyone!
