Visiting Zermatt or Chamonix

Hi, I will be visiting Switzerland with family in early Aug for 14 days. I'm having hard time deciding whether to viist Chamonix or Zermatt for the first part of the trip. So far, I haven't planned to visit Jungfraujoch, so I thought I would visit Matterhorn or Mont Blanc.

From what I have read, it seems like logistcally and time wise, it's easier to reach Chamonix than Zermatt if I stay in Geneva. I'm open to suggestion:)

Day 1 Arrive in Geneva Airport at 5:30 p.m.
Day 2-3 Chamonix or Zermatt, half day in Bern
Day 4-10 Base in Murren, explore Jungfrau region
Day 11-14 Plan to stay in Lucern and fly out from Zurich

Thanks.

Ease of access is equivalent. I lean towards Chamonix because it is cheaper and just as breathtaking, in a different way. I would spend 3 nights rather than 2; 6 nights will be plenty in Mürren. Bern is not reachable easily from Chamonix or Zermatt; it is a great option for poor weather activities from Mürren, or a good half-day trip from Luzern if so inclined.

Stay in Montreux do the day trip to Zermatt. Save Chamonix for another time.
Take the train from Montreux to Murren.
However, about two weeks ago I visited Zermatt from Bern for the 2nd time on a day trip.
The key is to leave as early as possible to avoid the crowd rush on the Gornergrat Railway at Zermatt.

Hi @Jazz+Travel,

Thanks for the suggestion to stay at Montreux and to visit Zermatt from there.

I gave it some more thought, I think I'm leaning more to Chamonix. I will take the bus to Chamonix after arrival at Geneva and stay there for 2 nights. Hopefully this is a good decision:)

If you want to head straight to Chamonix from the airport, consider one of the many shuttle services (e.g. Mountain Dropoffs - not a recommendation, just an example): it is a huge business and it can save a lot of time vs. the bus.
