Hello all. We’d like to visit Fortress Fürigen while we’re in Luzern. The boat sounds as though it’s our best option for transportation but the only info I can find is that it’s “a short walk” from the dock to the museum. Now, a “short walk” meant something different when we were in our 40s than now in our 80s. Has anyone done this trip and can tell me how far that short walk is? Also are taxis available in the village of Stansstad that would enable us to skip the walk? Thanks.
I have not been there, but I can see that the walk is level along the lake, and looks to be 3/4 mile one way, so not that short ("approximately 20 minutes", say the reviews). No idea about taxis; they seem unlikely to be available.
I went here as part of the Rick Steves Best of Switzerland tour so we arrived by bus, not boat. We walked about 15 minutes along the lakeshore to the Fortress. At first there was a pedestrian path and then we were walking on a roadway with extremely limited traffic. There were no benches or places to rest if you tired on the roadway section.
There may be an accommodation for those with mobility limitations to be able to take a taxi as there was some traffic on the road. I think you might have to contact the site itself to know for sure.
Thanks Balso and Carol. We may have to skip this after all but I do hope to see it. It sounds fascinating. I did try their webpage before asking Forum members, and although it said “translation available” I couldn’t find the English version.
Did you try this website? This link should take you to the English version.

Thanks, Carrie. I’m awaiting a response from the museum.
Just received this email from the museum and am posting it for someone’s future reference;
“Hello
I'm sorry, there is no bus to the Fort Furigen.
From boat station stansstad you need 15-20 minutes to go. And also with a privat taxi you can drive only till Harissenbucht, and from there you need 5 minutes to go till the entrance.
Freundliche Grüsse
