Visit to Matterhorn from Zermatt

We plan to visit zermatt as part of a train tour of Switzerland and we have the option to book our optional excursions such as Matterhorn Glacier Paradise from Zermatt. Is it cheaper to book it ahead of time before we leave for Switzerland or is it cheaper to buy it when we get there. We also plan to go to Jungfraujoch around the same time.
We plan to be there around the 3rd week of July - what is the chance of bad weather during that time?

You can book your plane tickets but there is no advantage of buying tickets or booking mountain excursions, or train travel in advance for travel in Switzerland. The prices are fixed (with the exception of Super Saver train tickets that are only made available a month in advance). It is better to buy when you get there as you never know what the weather is going to be like on the day you paid to go. There is always the possiblilty that when you show up or go up to the mountain that it will be covered in clouds leaving you with zero visibility. I have been in July and the Mt Pilatus in Luzern was covered where you could not see anything. Most hotels and the entrance to the lifts will have a live monitor that shows the conditions on top of the mountains, to help you decide to go up or not.

It is a roll of dice on weather. It took me 3trips to switz to finally get a clear forecast for Zermatt and Matterhorn. It was gorgeous.
We didnot make it tomJungfrau Asia was clouded in one summer when we were there for4days.
So be it , we are at peace with it ,our stay in berner oberland was wonderful.
Good luck.

It has been a long time since we made it up to the Matterhorn. The weather was good and the visit did not take long. I regret missing the opportunity to be photographed with the dogs--big St Bernards. The fee at that time was $25 I think for the photo op. I would think you will have fine weather. The Jungfrau is more impressive Imo--went there a year ago in early June and there was a huge crowd up there.
