why not buy it at home? Or do you need/want it to be in CHF? I would imagine every supermarket would carry them.

joannie, I have never seen a "Visa Gift Card" on sale or advertised in Switzerland. I have never heard of one before, either in Switzerland or in the UK.
The two big supermarket chains (Coop, Migros), and the main department store chain (Manor, which does have a branch in Locarno) all have their own gift cards; but these will only be valid in their own shops. A Manor Gift Card (click here for details in Italian) is an option, but only if you know your cousins like shopping in Manor.

No, sorry Ken. What you posted is a standard Visa or Mastercard credit card offered by the Coop supermarket chain.
It is branded as "SUPERCARDplus", and unlike credit cards offered by most Swiss banks it has no annual charge.

Translation: With the free SUPERCARDplus credit card you can not only pay for your Coop shopping. It is also accepted for payment in over 200 countries and one million locations. And without annual charge. Additionally you collect Coop Super-points with every purchase. Including outside the Coop and worldwide.

Is there anywhere you can get a gift card of any sort that you can use to buy anything with? Here in the US we have a variety of different ones. I don't know about Switzerland.

Joannie, as I posted earlier:

Chris F,

Thanks for the clarification on that. Unfortunately I don't speak German but it looked like it might have been a good possibility.

joannie,

You could always use cash - that always works well.

This might be a little out there, but how about a gift card to Amazon.de? We buy from Amazon.it all the time. Although the cards are issued in Euro, surely they could enjoy redeeming it online.
