Value of Swiss Travel Card for Family of 5

My family of 5 will be in Switzerland for about 5-6 days in June. We have kids that are 12, 14 and 16 years old.

We will be in Lucerne for 2 days and staying in Murren for 4 days. We have a car and will be driving, parking in Lauterbrunnen and then staying up in Murren. We don't plan on doing a lot of museums, mainly outdoor stuff. We plan on going up to Schilthorn and hiking and traveling around Berner Oberland. From Murren we are going back into Germany.

I am trying to decide if it is worth it to buy the Swiss Travel Card. We would have to purchase it for myself, my husband and my 16 year old daughter at a cost of $762. My younger 2 could travel for free on the Family Card. Most of the upper rails in Berner Oberland are not covered by the Swiss Pass and therefore I would have to pay for them anyway. However, with the Swiss Family Card my younger 2 are covered, without it, I would have to pay each time for a family of 5.

I can't find the costs for the smaller transits like Murren to Grindewald, etc so I can't do the math to compare the costs.

Please help!! My trip is in 3 weeks!

Swiss rail has all the cost information you need for any individual route in SF. It's about 12 SF from Stechelberg to Murren, one-way, full-fare. That will add up to one spicy meatball after 4 days!

The Travel Pass would get you a 50% discount on a trip to the Schilthorn and a 25% discount to the Jungfraujoch. Also check out the Half-Fare Card. You still have to buy tickets with the HFC and it's only a 50% discount, but the up-front cost is a lot less: 120 SF per adult. Same rules for the younger kids. And its Jungfraujoch discount is 50%, not 25%.

Just look on the SBB website: https://www.sbb.ch/en/ Look up a train time and click on "purchase" to show the price.
Lauterbrunnen to Mürren: CHF 11.40, adult full price. CHF 5.70 for children and adults with a half price card.
Mürren to Grindelwald: CHF 20.40 full price, CHF 10.20 half price.

Get the Half Fare Card for the adults. Get the Free Swiss Family Card for the kids < 16 years old.

The HFC will discount all of your "upper rail travels" by 50%. In fact EVERYTHING is discounted 50%. Your kids < 16 pay ZERO.

Note that the 16-year-old is not free---he will need a Half-Fare Card too.
