Using the Seat 61 Hack from Zurich - Chur - Tirano

Hi, I'm trying to use the Seat 61 hack that I read about on these forums. Looking for a sanity check on booking using the German Railways:

If I fly into Zurich on 7/3 at 8 am and want to spend an overnight in Chur before my Bernini Express train on 7/4 at 13:34, does it make sense to book the following:

July 3

9:32 train from Singen (IC 481)

10:38 train from Zurich HB (IC 565) - does this assume enough time to get through customs and train over to the main station?

Stopover in Chur for 25 hours

July 4

13:34 train Chur to Tirano (PE 955)

Should this plan work or should I try to create a little more wiggle room in Zurich?

Thanks for any advice!

In addition, you must be on the 10:15 am train from Zurich airport to Zurich HB at the latest, which should be no problem if your plane lands on time. You will arrive underground on Platform 33 at 10:25, go up the first escalator, then procee in the coridor for the escalator up to Platform 12 for the 10:38 train to Chur. You can, of course, take an earlier train from the airport to Zurich HB.

So you will need to buy a 7 CHF ticket for the airport train plus get a seat reservation from Rhb for 28 CHF.

I would plan my stopover in Zurich, not Chur. More to do, and less worries about making your train. Also look at just buying an SBB supersaver, or a saver day pass. The seat61 hack isn't always the cheapest option.

Can you explain the SBB supersaver or saver day pass option?

We have previously been to Zurich so I thought just enjoying the train to Chur would be a nice option and overnight before our 1:30 trip to Tirano.

Thanks for the information!

For your date, there are no Supersaver tickets, but there is a Saver Day Pass, which is currently 61 CHF without a Half Fare Card. Price will go up as you approach your travel date.
