Using the cable cars to get around Gimmelwald and Murren?

We're going to stay at Esther's Guest House for 3 nights in July. It looks like dining options are really limited in Gimmelwald.
Is it possible to take the cable car up and back to Murren for meals or are the price and schedule prohibitive?
Haven't been there before...

Gimmelwald is tiny, not even a grocery store. However, it is beautiful and charming. There is a paved walkway, and the walk is about 30+ minutes, down from Murren to Gimmelwald, and up on the return. The cost of the lifts depends on what pass you have, as most folks have either a STP or a Half-fare card. if you download the SBB app, you can view the fares. If possible, you may consider staying in Murren or Wengen, both of which offer more services. In either case, enjoy this beautiful country!

We stayed a few days in the Lauterbrunnen valley. We loved Gimmelwald and used the cable cars to get there a few times. We did have the Swiss Travel pass which covers the cable car. We walked (actually sledded) down from Murren once. Its not far and it would be a lovely walk.

You can walk from one to the other. Limited facilities is kind of the whole point of Gimmelwald.

We took a lift up the mountain in Murren then hiked down to Gimmelwald, beautiful hike. Had a beer then walked the road back up to Murren. It was continuous up hill and I don’t think I would want to do it in the dark. Maybe you could stock up with a few food items in Murren or just make use of the tram.

We stayed in Mürren for 4 nights last summer and it was wonderful. We had a Swiss Travel Pass, so I don’t know the cost of the cable car to/from Gimmelwald, but it is easy and frequent. The walk between the two towns is very pleasant, but not something you’ll want to do every time you go out for dinner. Significant uphill or downhill for 30+ minutes.

Thanks, everyone.
I think we'll be able to get around pretty well based on your input.

Just an opinion, but Gimmelwald, while idyllic to visit for the day, doesn't offer much else than what you can see in a day unless you are very fit and avid hikers. I would suggest dining in Murren and using the cable lifts. You may want to have some non-perishable food stuffs with you when you arrive in Gimmelwald for lunches or afternoon snacks and some water bottles.

Unless your heart is set on spending the nights in Gimmelwald, I would also suggest staying in Murren and enjoying the walk down to Gimmelwald and cable lift back to Murren as a day outing. Being in Murren makes your access to other points in the Berner Oberland much easier.

However, this is just a suggestion. Enjoy whichever decision you make. The region is spectacular.
