Hi all - I'm really struggling with my hotel choice in either Wengen or Murren for 3 nights late summer. My husband and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary with a 10 day trip and this is the only location I'm having a hard time deciding. Price is not an issue as this is a splurge worthy trip for us. That said, I'm looking for a place that we will remember forever - the views, the vibe, the comfort, the charm, but without a stuffy, too formal, nose-in-the-air feel (if that makes sense?). Our last trip was a very hectic, European family trip, fitting in all the sights, and this trip is all about slow down, relax, enjoy the natural beauty and pamper ourselves. I would be grateful for personal recommendations of somewhere that just WOWed you in the area. Or I'm open to somewhere else in the Lauterbrunnen/Jungfrau area. Thank you so much!
Having been there 3-4 times I am trying to remember if there is an upscale hotel choice in Wengen or Murren……the only hotel like that I think of is HOTEL VICTORIA in Interlaken…….beautiful big grand hotel that opens up on a park where all of the hang gliders come in all day……I think what you will be paying for in these 2 towns is view, not extra comfort……we stayed in Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen and loved it……had a balcony over the valley and the views were incredible…..I think most of the hotels in these 2 towns have been there a while and while they are very nice and comfortable they are not fancy…..does that make sense? I would suggest visiting for the day Hotel Geissbach, a grand old hotel at the Geissbach Falls…….the boat ride there from Interlaken is beautiful…..the water, the boat, the views……and then reserve a patio table for lunch and just breathe it all in as you enjoy your view of the Lake Brienz and the falls…….Hotel Balances is a fabulous hotel in Luzern right on the Chapel Bridge and was a splurge for us on our 50th last year……SO WORTH IT!
Like Jane I struggle to think of anywhere in Wengen or Mürren which would meet your request. I can think of a couple down the hill which are very nice in different ways.

is the Hotel Dorint Blüemlisalp Beatenberg / Interlaken. Dorint is a high grade German hotel chain - my favourite. The photos tell the story, and I can assure you (haven't stayed yet at that particular location but I have extensive experience with Dorint) that the food and breakfast will be lovely. Rooms are very comfortable, and if I were looking for what you are looking for I'd sure look there.
And I agree with Jane that Giessbach is a lovely old lady in a lovely setting on Lake Brienz (the Dorint is on Lake Thun) and I'd be happy going there too.
Good luck in your search.
The new Mürren Palace has suites, spa, farm to table restaurant, beautiful views and it’s a new renovation of a very historic 1800s hotel in Mürren. The luxe suites have hot tubs on the balcony overlooking the mountains and the balconies are built where no one can see you. It’s not going to be over the top 5 star private butler service but it will be a very cozy luxe experience and Mürren is not at all pretentious feeling.

A side note - there are some epic spa resorts in Austria that feel like they fit the vibe you’re going for. Look at places like

One issue hotels in Wengen and Mürren have is that they cannot get a five star rating, because they have no road access.
(And for a 5 star rating you must have limo service to the front door...)
And as a result there is no way to get on the map as a luxury place.
But I would look at the Caprice in Wengen, the Beau Site, and the Victoria Lauberhorn.
Regarding the Palace in Mürren: They added a modern extension, and most of those suites, especially the ones with the whirlpool on the balcony will be in the new part.
Yes, the hot tub suites are in the new building, but you still get to experience the historic portion when you’re eating in the restaurant and using the common space, so it’s modern with historic charm in parts.
Hotel Bellevue in Wengen has 5 star views of the valley from their Corner panoramic rooms. It’s located a bit away from the other hotels in town but it’s situated in such a way that you’ll never want to leave your balcony or the view. My wife and I stayed there for our 25th wedding anniversary and we are heading back next year to bring our kids so that I can show them that amazing valley view. It’s forever etched in my memory as the most beautiful view of nature I’ve ever seen.
The hotel itself is fine but it could’ve been a lean to with an outhouse and I still would’ve stayed for that glorious view. It certainly has the “wow factor” you’re looking for.
Thank you everyone! I think we are going to go with the Maya Caprice hotel. As far as rooms, does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of the the Junior Suites 18 and 45? We are deciding between these two.
