Unusual Swiss crime.....

I was somewhat surprised to see this story.....

It seems to have been a lot of effort for a small payback, and not something I would have ever expected to see in Switzerland.

I agree - so much work for so little! Not something I would expect to see here at all.

What always amazes me is that so many things here are left seemingly unattended with no problems. Not just people’s personal property, but stores have a lot of their product outside - plants and flowers and other garden centre items - with no fence at all…and they are not brought in when the store is closed in the evenings or all day Sunday. Something that I just didn’t see in Canada.

A sad situation and one wonders at the “who.” It seems so un-Swiss-like.

The thief is probably not Swiss and someone who does not even live in Switzerland

In Austin, we have a lot of festivals, especially music and film. We have a problem with organized crime groups coming in from outside the USA and attending the festival solely for the purpose of stealing from participants enjoying the festival. They especially steal cell phones.

Back to Switzerland. I feel good that a benefactor replaced the stolen money.

I would love to live in a country where people are so honest that they do not even steal.

I hate be a naysayer but I think that events like this contribute to cashless societies. Cash boxes like this (even with the additional barriers) are just asking to be robbed. I think it's very sad. Ken mentioned that it was a lot of effort for a small payment, but I wonder if that wasn't part of the challenge for the thieves.
