Hi everyone. We have booked the Eurotunnel crossing for end of July as we want to drive and site see Europe for couple weeks but there's so many nice places to choice from. There's two adults and a 7year old child we are packing minimal camping equipment in the car and just going. We fancy seeing Switzerland but been told can be cold please please anyone got any advice to where's best to head for. It's our first time on a road trip and usually beach holiday abroad.many thanks Colin
Anywhere in the Alps you need to be prepared for rain and hot weather...it can fluctuate fast!
Switzerland is about a 7 hour drive from Calais, where the Eurotunnel ends so plan on spending one day of your vacation getting there.
We have done a lot of camping in Europe and it's fantastic! Campgrounds usually have grass to pitch your tent on, groceries on site, sometimes a small restaurant, and really nice bathrooms. You'll like it!
If you don't want a long drive with a 7 year old, and are definitely going to camp, then consider spending your time on the north coast of France. There are beautiful towns and villages, lots of beautiful beaches and coastline, castles, etc.
If you want to see cities (and you CAN do this while camping...there are campgrounds on the outskirts of most European cities) then you are within each reach of Brussels, Amsterdam, and Paris. In Paris there is a nice campground on an island in the Seine in a place called Maison Lafitte. About a 20 minute train ride into the city center.
