Hello! We have about two days and nights to spend in Switzerland on our drive to Zurich airport. My wife (a foodie) wants to visit Gruyeres. I have read good things about Gruyeres, Fribourg and Bern in this region. We will be driving from Annecy France (2 hours away) and would appreciate advice on how to best spend our time in this area and which place/town to stay as our final stop before driving to Zurich airport on our departure day. thank you!
Have you been to Switzerland previously? Anything you definitely want to see (alps) or already seen and want to bypass?
PS - you've read about the hefty drop fees for returning a rental car to a different country than your original pickup destination, right?
Drop off fee is not a problem - we are starting and ending in Zurich (easiest place for us to fly into). Switzerland is not the main focus of this trip (mostly northern italy and adjacent france), so we're just looking for something interesting in this area on the way back to Zurich. Many years ago I've been to Luzern or Berner Oberland (wonderful of course!), and repeat visit would be neat, but I don't think I can get the family on board for this, plus packing for cold and hiking would be more involved. Would welcome any ideas on the journey from Lyon France to Zurich (could bypass Annecy France but trying not to do too much driving in any one particular day)
thanks!
When I visit the BO (Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Murren) it's always in June, and I never pack for cold weather and hiking. I love it nonetheless and love to walk around but no serious hiking.
Thanks and I will still consider it. isn't it very expensive (especially for family of four?) to take the rail lines up into the mountains and then there's the question of weather conditions?
