Travelling from Como to Zurich

We are in Como and wish to know the best/cheapest way to get to Zurich? We would love to catch the Bernina Express but think it might be awkward and expensive. Are there regional trains on the same route we can access from Como. We are travelling on public transport.
Thanks

Do you mean the city of Como, or some other town on Lake Como. There are direct trains from the city of Como to Zurich several times a day. Going by way of the Gotthard tunnel, it will be plenty scenic.

Yes, the question is do you mean Como the town, or some other location on lake Como?
The direct route from Como (the town) to Zürich is easy, many trains every day. Look up times and prices on www.sbb.ch/en (Swiss Federal Railways). Make sure you enter "from: Como S. Giovanni", there are other stations in Como which do not connect to Zürich. It will take about 3½ hours.

If you are staying somewhere else on the lake it will not be so easy. From Menaggio on the western side of the lake there is a bus service to Lugano, from where you can take a train to Zürich. If you are staying on the east side of the lake, there is a different railway line which goes along the east side of the lake, and connects to Tirano, which is where the Bernina Pass route starts.
There are hourly trains on the Bernina Pass route, as well as the tourist Bernina Express. Just get whichever train is convenient, you will see the same mountains. This route will be a lot longer and slower then the direct Como - Zürich route.

Thanks! We are in the city of Como. To get a scenic route do we have to go back to Milan or Torino? Appreciate the help.

Just get on the EC train at Como San Giovanni station to Zurich. How scenic do you want? You are going over the top of the high Alps.
