Traveling to Switzerland with medications

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can find out what medications/supplements are okay to bring in to Switzerland for personal use? Been trying to find it on embassy and state department websites and not finding what I’m looking for.

I would be bringing homeopathics, traditional Chinese Medicine formulas and my prescription for Tylenol 3 that I have for chronic pain. That’s the one I’m most concerned about as I saw something that mentioned narcotics or opiates may need a special permission.

Thanks for your help!

call a Swiss embassy somewhere in the US (NYC, SF, etc.) to get a confirmed referral to the approved website

According to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security website:

Travellers are allowed to carry medicinal products containing narcotic
or psychotropic substances without an import or export permit,
provided that the quantity carried is no greater than that required
for 30 days, and in the case of exportation, that the destination
country allows this.

I'm not sure what the exact rules are for Switzerland, but are you visiting any other countries in Europe as well? Any medication classed as a narcotic need to be in its original packaging and you need to be able to show that it is yours (usually the label will have that information).

It's hard to say anything about the "traditional Chinese Medicine formulas" without knowing what they are. But sugar pills are not a problem.

We just go about our way and not put any emphasis on any meds we're carrying. The meds are kept in the original bottles, and we've not been questioned in the last 40 years' traveling.

And my wife's carrying opioid based pain killers--controlled substances in the U.S.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate it! Sounds like I’ll be good as long as everything is in the original bottle with labels. Cheers!

Bring a hard copy and retain an electronic copy of each of the meds if prescribed.

I bring with me my meds everywhere but none are controlled substances.
