Traveling to Nice from Berner Oberland

I plan to travel to Villefranche-su-Mer from Wengen and will have a Swiss Rail Pass. What is the best way to get there? By best, I mean most pleasant in terms of time, cost, and comfort. Is it better to fly or take the train? Better to take the train through Italy or to Geneva into France?

It is a long trip, about 8 hours. I would travel early in the morning from Interlaken Ost to Milan (3hrs) and spend the rest of the day in Milan. Spend the night in Milan. Then take the train from Milan to Nice (5hrs) the next day.

Interlaken to Milan is going to be mostly tunnel, isn't it?

3 h 10 minutes from Interlaken to Milan is the shortest journey, and that one (Interlaken Ost—Spiez—-Milano) does involve two long tunnels under the Alps. One between Spiez and Visp, and another between Brig and Domodossola.

Thanks to all. Very helpful. We are probably going to take train to Zurich and fly to Nice, since the train ride isn’t scenic.

There are a couple of long tunnels on the way, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a scenic trip by train. Not just through the Alps, but also the ride along the Mediterranean coast.

I agree with Badger. Most of it will be scenic, from Milan to Nice for sure. So, I would reconsider flying because the time saved isn't much and how scenic is a plane ride? Good luck.

For Milan to Nice, lots of tunnels nowadays but some good seaside stretches too. Sit on the left!
Wengen to Zürich airport takes 3 hours, Wengen to Milan takes 4 hours, so you might as well take the train all the way, but it is a long day. 9+ hours.
