Is it worth stopping in Spiez for a one day trip to Bern?
|It would depend when you are going, in summer |i would take a longer trip and go from Interlaken to Spiez by boat, it takes about an hour, and then walk or take the bus from the boat to the station. Otherwise tobe honest no, Bern is far more interesting.
I'm not sure there's much of interest in Spiez. If you were going to take a few hours there on a day trip to Bern, I agree with the previous reply. There's much more to see in Bern so those few hours would be better spent there.
OK thank you....we are there in December so will just go straight to Bern.
Is there a preferred train route?
There's only one reasonable route from Interlaken to Bern. Most trains going west from either Interlaken Ost or Interlaken West go through Bern, and some others allow the change at Spiez.
It is very straightforward - Interlaken > Spiez > Thun > Bern.
You can take any train making the run, no matter if it is a German ICE, a Swiss Intercity double decker complete with children's playground upstairs in the last coach, or a local all-stops single decker. No reservations needed or accepted, no discount for advance purchase.
Thank you, appreciate the help.
