Hi, my husband and I are planning to take the train from Basel to Florence on July 6 and then on JUly 11th we need to travel from Cinque Terre to Zurich. Can someone tell me the best route to take for both days? I hear there are construction on some parts of the train routes. I would be so grateful if someone can tell me the best way for me to go. Please provide as much detail, this is our first time in Europe. Thanks in advance.

The website www.sbb.ch will show you the best route, and you can book your tickets there. The times shown already do take in to account the various disruptions. Book Basel - Firenze on www.sbb.ch
For Cinque Terre back to Zurich you are probably going to be best off taking the train in Monterosso, as it has direct trains to Milano, where you change for Zürich. Best place to book this is www.trenitalia.com

Have you considered booking a Multi-City/Open-Jaw plane ticket into Basel or Zurich, and home from Milan? It might save you both valuable vacation-time, and money.
