We plan to stay in Wengen for 3 days prior to continuing on to Ljubljana to hop on our RS tour of the Adriatic. Our Swiss friends will be helping us get to Wengen, but what I am hoping you folks can tell me, is how long should we allow for the train ride to Zurich? I realize it will take several hours, but do you think it is feasible to travel to Zurich and hop a flight to Ljubljana the same day or should we plan to spend the night in Zurich to avoid stressing about connections/time, etc? We chose Wengen based on the views and others' reviews--we don't plan on a lot of hiking up/down due to knee issues, but we do plan to do some fairly level hikes there. Thanks!

Another option between Zürich and Ljubljana is the direct overnight train.
With a flight in the offing , spend the night before in Zurich , or at least in Luzern . Wengen to Zurich is three hours , Luzern to Zurich , about 45 minutes .
You don't need to arrive quite as early as you would for an overseas flight, so if you can find mid-to-late afternoon flights from either Zürich or even Geneva, you can take them starting from Wengen. No problem.
The overnight train option is worth considering, however: the ÖBB nightjets that operate the routes are quite comfortable. To give you an idea, a 5 PM departure from Wengen will let you catch the overnight train in Zürich, which gets you to Ljubljana shortly after 8 AM.
