Is it safe to travel to the US? Most other countries have an advisory to be aware of random gun violence if visiting the US.

I agree with your two respondents, and also well understand your concern as far as overseas travel with your family. A reminder, besides US domestic danger, is that other global conflicts (Ukraine/Russia for only one example) are and have been underway, too, as you planned this trip.
I would suggest using carry on bags only, and making sure you have additional supplies of any medications, some snack bars, etc. I always keep a small stash of US and local currency, too. The most likely scenario, conflicts or not, is travel delays.
