Hi - I'm looking to travel from Rapperswil to Murren on June 10 and wondering the best route. Some say to train through Lucerne instead of Bern. I believe it adds a little time but I'm not finding a way to do it or check time difference. Any thoughts?
Thank you!
On the SBB site, put in via Luzern. That should put you on the Voralpen Express to Luzern, then the Luzern Interlaken Express to Interlaken Ost.
Without specifying a via point, SBB will send you the fastest way, which would be to Zurich and Bern.
That would be the xx:56 train and take about 5 hours, 1 1/4 hours longer than going via Zurich and Bern.
If you are actually buying a ticket, the route through Luzern is cheaper since the travel distance is shorter, even if longer timewise.
The quickest way is to get a train to Zurich and then get the direct train to Interlaken Ost from there.
Rapperswil > Zurich HB > Interlaken Ost > Lauterbrunnen > Grutschalp > Murren
When you're covering longer distances with luggage, the less changes you have the better. You're going to see so much beautiful scenery while in Murren that I wouldn't spend the extra time and changes going through Luzern. Just get to where you're going.
To get the best connections/time, leave Rapperswil at 7:14, 10:14, 12:14 or 14:14. The trip will take 3 hours 40 minutes.
To see these options, use SBB.ch/en and type in "Muerren" with an E to allow for the umlaut.
Thank you both for the reply. I tend to agree that I will see plenty in Murren and will take the more direct route. Thanks again!
The direct route, or the fast route?
Sorry Sam - decided on the faster route. I’m a huge packer fan though:)
