Travel plan from Geneva to Rome

We are a couple looking to spend a 15-day honeymoon between Switzerland and Italy, with arrival at Geneva Airport and departure from Rome Airport. We would appreciate your assistance in creating a detailed travel itinerary with the names of the places that should be visited to make the most of the trip. The places should be close to each other to ensure the best experience. Please note that we are not fond of shopping or historical sites, but we prefer natural locations. We would like the itinerary to include cities and villages with the best scenery, as we plan to rent a car for most of the trip, but we are open to using trains and boats as well. Additionally, we would appreciate your suggestions for hotels or accommodations.

This is a travel forum, not a free travel agent. It's a good place to discuss your plan, but it's not a place that will plan your trip for free.

But I can give you one bit of advice: Do not plan to rent a car for most of the trip before the trip is planned and you don't if you'll actually have any use for a car.

You will have to do some of the leg work, but I will throw out a trial suggested itinerary.
3 days Montreux
3 days Zermatt
3 days Florence
3 days in Tuscan countryside (now is the time to rent a car)
3 days in Rome
You don't say when this trip is going to happen.

We can better help you if we know when your honeymoon will take place. Some destinations in Italy are best in early spring or fall, when it is not too hot or too crowded. And the mountain areas of Switzerland are best June-September, unless you want to ski or do some winter hiking.

As for renting a car, that is best confined to one country, as a one-way rental from Switzerland to Rome would incur a large drop fee. The Swiss transport system, with trains, boats, and cablecars is so smooth and efficient there is really no need for a car there. Some areas of Italy are best toured by car, but you need to be very careful to avoid the avoid the city centers and the dreaded ZTL zones.

So please post again to say when your trip will take place, and maybe some of your interests—-you said “nature” so I am thinking lakes and mountains, maybe gardens. Are you planning to go hiking, or do easier walks?

Hello everyone,

I would like to express my gratitude for the responses received. I want to inform you that we have finalized our travel plans. We have booked a flight departing on May 18 to Geneva and returning on June 2 from Rome Airport. So i have 15 Days.

After careful consideration, we have decided not to rent a car and instead plan to explore the destinations on foot, immersing ourselves in the beauty of nature. Our main interest lies in enjoying the scenic landscapes and lush greenery rather than engaging in skiing activities.

We have conducted thorough research to identify the best places to visit in both countries, ensuring that we make the most of our trip. I have prepared a chart outlining these destinations, and I kindly request your input and suggestions.

Additionally, I would appreciate any recommendations for hotels that offer breathtaking views in the respective areas. Your insights and suggestions will be highly valued.

Itinerary plan:
Arrive, Geneva
1 Night - Lake excursion to Lausanne/Montreux
2 Night – Bern
1 Night – Luzern
4 Nights - To Lauterbrunnen (Wengen & Schilthorn & Oeschinen Lake & Blausee‏)
2 Nights - Lake Como sights
1 Nights - Varenna
Milan To Venezia to spend 2 Nights in Venezia
1 Night - Firenze & Pisa
1 Night & fly back - Roma

Thank you once again for your assistance.
