We be in Switzerland for 11 or 12 days during which it seems likely we will use local buses, or tramways, or trains on all but a day or two. I am considering the Travel Pass Flex for getting around the country and for local use. Five nights will be spent in Murren, which means using the tram to get to and from the valley. We will be flying in to and out of Zurich, and using only public transportation. Is it still the case where ANY type of travel that offers free or discounted fare and for which I choose to use the Travel Pass Flex card counts as one of my potential days of use. If so, is it wise to keep track and pay full for some travel and save days for the "big" travel? Or is another Pass a better option?
The Flex Pass is the worst pass you can get. It's the most expensive and annoying to keep track of, plus it doesn't cover a lot of the activities in the mountains that you'd want to do. If you're spending that much time in Murren, get the Half Fare Card + 5 or 6 day reduced Jungfrau Pass. That way, you'll get 50% off everything on your other 6 days staying not in Murren (where are you going?) and then during your time in Murren/Jungfrau Region the majority of what you do will be fully covered. This will cost you 120 chf for the Half Fare Card + 225 chf for the 6 day Jungfrau Pass.

Just note that we only have trams on some of the bigger cities. To get to Mürren you take a cable car.
Thank you for the very helpful answer. We fly into Zurich on 22 August and will have five days to explore Switzerland before we are due in Murren. I would like to visit Lucern, and wewould enjoy seeing birds and other wildlife of the Alps. Any suggestions for places to visit? Should we expect everywhere to be busy?
