Hello, I will be getting off a cruise ship in Ravenna (Venice). I plan to travel around that area for a few days. I would.like to check the.possibility if traveling.to Switzerland also
So what would.be the.best places.to.go, also since I haven't booked return flight yet would it.be.easier in Switzerland or Italy to US
Zurich Airport is probably better-connected than Venice, so no worries getting home from there. That being said, pretty much everywhere in Switzerland is worth seeing. Last summer, we did five days from Geneva to Zurich, hitting Lausanne, Montreux, Bern, Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen/Wengen, and Lucerne, and it was all fantastic. The Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen. Among places I haven't been, people rave about Zermatt, Lugano, St. Moritz, and Appenzell.
When will you be traveling? How much time will you have? Best places to go will be determined by what you would like to see and do in Switzerland.
I suggest you pick up a travel guide or 2 from your local library or bookstore (Rick Steves, Eyewitness, Rough Guide or whatever catches your attention). This will give you a sense of what is possible with the time you have available.
Are you a hiker? Do you want to soak up a lake view with mountains on the backdrop? A scenic train trip through the Alps? Time in a mountain village?
Depending on what you decide, you might fly home from Milan, Zurich or Geneva.
if your traveling to Zurich from Italy, consider booking the Bernina Express from Tirano Italy, over the Alps, to Chur. From Chur the train to Zurich is easy peasy. It is an unbelievably beautiful train ride, about 5 hours. It was on my wife's bucket list, and it did not disappoint.
Also consider the Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Murren area. It is stunning. As mentioned above, the Lauterbrunnen valley is like nothing you'll see, the Alps are majestic.
Good Luck
Thank you all. I am traveling in Early October. I am looking for lively scenery and cute places to wander around
