My wife and I arriving Zurich 1035AM July 1, 2019 and looking to travel to Lauterbrunnen. I don't see any reasonable options to travel by panoramic train as they all leave prior to our arrival in Zurich if I read timetable correctly. Seems we need rent a car although only use would be to get to Lauterbrunnen and return Zurich as in Lauterbrunnen area for 4 days. Any ideas much appreciated. JRW
Where are you looking at schedules? There are at least 3 train connections every hour from Zurich airport. If you want a scenic route, take the hourly connection via Luzern. The section between Luzern and Intelaken Ost has panorama cars and goes over the Brunig Pass.
Schedules at www.sbb.ch/en
Put Luzern in the "via" box.
Are you thinking that you can see more by rental car than by a normal non-panoramic train? Certainly the driver won't. Much of that route is not that scenic until the end. But goodness, you don't need a panoramic train to view the scenery. You'll be too tired from the plane ride to drive anyway.
Are you really arriving at Zürich (city centre), or at the airport?
Two different places.
Look up trains on the SBB (Swiss Railways) website: https://www.sbb.ch/en
Enter from Zürich Flughafen (the station at the airport), to: Lauterbrunnen, and a date and time (e.g. 11:00) and you get the following list of trains:
Zürich Flughafen dep 11:18, Lauterbrunnen arr 13:55
Zürich Flughafen dep 11:46, Lauterbrunnen arr 14:25
Zürich Flughafen dep 12:18, Lauterbrunnen arr 14:55
Zürich Flughafen dep 12:46, Lauterbrunnen arr 15:25
Zürich Flughafen dep 13:18, Lauterbrunnen arr 15:55
And the same times (twice per hour) for the rest of the day. Swiss train times are boringly repetitive.
Remember, each and every rail line in Switzerland has at least one train per hour, often more, There will always be a train!
I was reading your comments. I need to go from the train station in Zurich to Interlaken.
I went on the website you stated www.sbb.ch/en and I put in Luzern for Via. It brought up the trains with times, etc. I clicked on the one that I want, but it doesn't do anything. How do I pick the one that I want and pay for it? Should I just keep trying and eventually it will take it? Help.
Did you put in a date and departure time? Did you then click on the red button "search for connections"? I just did and found a train from Zurich Hbf at 4 past the hour for every hour from early morning to late evening. Maybe you did not scroll down after clicking the red button to see the results.
I tried it a few more times and I got it to work. The system must have just been running slow.
Thanks.
@Patti, why do you want to pay for it now?
Unless you are buying one of the rare discounted tickets, there is no advantage in buying in advance on the internet. You pay the same price at the station, no discounts for advanced purchase.
Tickets are valid on any train on the date shown on the ticket, they are not train specific.
"Zurich to Interlaken." - make sure you pick the correct Zürich station, Zürich HB in the city centre, or Zürich Flughafen at the airport.
