Travel from Zurich to Interlaken

Hi everyone!

I am arriving in Switzerland via flight to Zurich and I will be staying in Interlaken for about a week. I want to purchase the Berner Oberland pass as it appears to be the most cost efficient Swiss travel pass for my itinerary. However, the BO pass does not include travel from Zurich.

I was thinking that I could purchase a train ticket from Zurich to Lucerne and then use my Berner Oberland pass as my train ticket from the ride from Lucerne down to Interlaken in order to save some money, especially if that part of the journey is already covered by the BO pass.

Does anyone have any tips, comments, or suggestions on doing this? Thank you so much!

Are you looking at a 6-day or 8-day BO Pass? "About a week"? Where are you going afterward? Back to Zurich airport?

We will be traveling around Interlaken and the surrounding cities for 7 days - the first of those 7 days we will be traveling from Zurich, and on the last day 7 we will be leisurely traveling back to Zurich. So it looks like we will need to by the 8 day BO pass...unless anyone knows of a better option!

With an 8-day pass, you are slightly better off also buying a Half Fare Card for 120 CHF. You save 108 CHF on the cost of the BO Pass with the HFC, then you get the discount on the tickets between Luzern or Bern to Zurich airport, which will be more than the 12 CHF marginal cost of the HFC.

Thank you so much for the quick replies!

What are your thoughts if I purchase only a 6 day Berner Oberland pass (as to not waste a day and money buying the 8 day BO pass) and also purchase the half fare card as to cover my travel to and from Zurich and then while I am in Zurich for a few days?

EDIT: I'm looking at the prices and the discount for youth (I'm under 25) and half fare card holders is the same price...is it still worth it?
