hello, what is the best place or best website to purchase tickets from Wengen to Milan? were probably going to buy the bernese oberland pass, we'll be in Wengen for 7 days and on the 8th day were going to Milan. Also will having the half fare swiss pass card be worth it along with the berner oberland pass?
sbb.ch -- prices will automatically show at half fare, so account for that when calculating your pass choice
Probably not worth the 8 day pass just to use it to get to only get 1/10th of the way to Milan (Interlaken). You'll have to calculate yourself the price of the half fare card with BO pass vs. not, as well as what the difference is in the price for getting to the border where half fare is still good on the way to Milan.
kristyn... I typed wrong days. well be there 7 days and on the 8th day travel to milan, so the 8th day pass would be it i guess
Also will having the half fare swiss pass card be worth it along with the berner oberland pass?
Since the 8-day pass costs 380 CHF normally, but 250 CHF with the Half Fare Card, the Half Fare Card is a no-brainer.
If you are not in a hurry to get to Milan, the B.O. Pass will get you all the way to Domodossola, Italy, BUT, you must take the slow route via Kandersteg to Brig and change to a regional train to Domodossola. From there you can proceed to Milan on a regional train for only 10.80 EUR. Trains at 1 past the even hours go to Garibaldi station and take 2 1/4 hours, Trains at 56 past the even hours go to Centrale and take 1 3/4 hour, except there is no 10:56 train.
I did calculations and converted to dollars and Its $16.58 less to have both passes
My calculations converting to US dollars, maybe Im wrong? Someone clarify? thank you
Berner pass $427.62
Berner pass with half fare card $281.33
Half fare card $138.00
Buy your ticket on SBB.ch and it will cover the whole journey as well as apply the discount available with the Half Fare Card.
There is a good route taking only 4 hours, with 3 changes (;ALauterbrunnen, Interlaken Ost, and Spiez) if you depart Wengen 10:42. This puts you on the 12:05 EC 53 from Spiez, which goes to Milan with no further changes.
The regular price for this journey (with the HalfFare Card applied) is 64 CHF, but if you buy well in advance you may get the Sparpreis of 55 CHF. I saw that available in late June, for example.
Note that if you take the slower route via Kandersteg and Brig on regional trains, your BO Pass may cover all the way to Domodossola. You can see this on the BO Pass map:

A ticket from Domodossola to Milan would cost €16,90 if you take an EC train or €10,90 for a regional train. However, going via Kandersteg and Brig would take longer and add 2 more changes to your journey.
