Travel from Milan, Italy on July 3, 2024 into Switzerland and returning to Milan on July 7

We are taking a four day trip from Milan into Switzerland. We are traveling by train or bus only. We will stay in Lugano, Switzerland for two nights, (July 3 & 4) then go to Belp for one night, (July 5) and then to Lusanne for one night (July 6), returning by train to Milan, Italy (July 7).

Is it cheaper for us to buy one way fares for each day or purchase one of the discount cards for half off fare or full transportation coverage? If purchasing a discount card, which one is the best deal? Thank you for your time and suggestions.

Be aware that the Simplon line will be blocked south of Dommodosola this summer for track work. Going from Lausanne to Milan you will either have to take the slow but picturesque FART train from Dommodosola - Locarno and connect onwards, go via central Switzerland on the classic Gotthard line via Lugano, or take the replacement bus from Dommodosola - Milan (adds 1 hour).

Half Fare Card with Saver Day Pass booked as early as possible for ultra long-distance days is usually cheaper but your itinerary is on the shorter side. You need to "do the math" to be sure.

Since the Half Fare Card cost 120 CHF, you need 240 CHF worth of full fare tickets before it begins to pay off.
