We have two to three days to travel from Interlaken area to catch our flight in Munich (June 25th). We need suggestions on how to travel from that area to see Neuschwanstein Castle. We've looked into a car rental, but renting from Switzerland and dropping off in Fussen, Germany is an outrageous price. The train rides are almost 8 plus hours. Any suggestions? Should we skip the castles and just travel to Munich. The castles look so pretty, we think it is worth it to see them before we travel to Munich? Thanks.
I suggest Lindau for an overnight stop. It is on an island in Bodensee (a lake), connected to the mainland by two bridges.

Lindau is on the rail line from Interlaken, via Zürich to Munich. It is the first town in Germany. You could get a train there, and then either an onward train to Munich, or rent a (German) car their to visit Füssen and return it at Munich airport, avoiding the international charge.
Thank you, great suggestion.
