We are having a hard time getting clarity on the obvious way to travel from Geneva to Annecy. Has anyone had experience and can give us some direction?
From Geneva airport, the bus 272 is the most convenient option - direct and faster than rail.
From central Geneva, the train from Cornavin or Eaux Vives station (depending on what is closer to you - if it's a tie, pick Eaux Vives) is the more comfortable option, with hourly direct trains.
Thank you for your reply. This is what I have read too but when I go to find a ticket, it says that there are no available trains. Could you tell me what website I can look at to check schedules and book a ticket? We are going in early July and I would like to be certain I can book the train before looking for nearby accommodations as well as scheduling the rest of the itinerary. TIA!
You cannot book that train: it is basically a commuter railway. You just buy tickets as you would do for the subway.
Schedules are available at SBB.ch (Swiss railways), but perhaps not this far in advance. Right now, hourly trains to Annecy leave Cornavin at 47 minutes past the hour, and call at Eaux-Vives 15 minutes later (so at 02 minutes past the following hour). Some connections require a change of trains in Annemasse.
Ok, great! Thanks again for the info!
