Does anyone know the best way to get from, Brig Switzerland to Varenna, Italy, on Lake Como?

You can check out the SBB (swiss rail website) and you will find an EC direct train leaving hourly from Brig to Milan, Italy. Travel time is just under 2 hours. In Milan you would change to a Regional (slower) train north from Milan to the Varenna-Esino station. Travel time for that is about an hour and those trains are not nearly as nice as the EC trains but they get you there. I don't believe the Regional trains take reservations. This is the fastest way with the least changes so easiest with luggage.
There is another more scenic route through Switzerland arriving in Tirano Italy where you would catch the same regional train heading south to Varenna-Esino however, this would take about 9 hours and involve many changes.
I was in Varenna last Fall (traveled from Zurich and stayed overnight in Tirano before heading to Varenna) and found it to be a very beautiful place. You will enjoy it!
